How to choose

Three rules that matter more than the destination

Latitude beats luck

Anywhere between 68°N and 71°N sits under the auroral oval on an average night. From Tromsø northwards you can see aurora at Kp 1–2; south of Bodø you need a storm.

Weather beats latitude

Clear skies are the real bottleneck. Inland spots (Alta, Kautokeino, Kirkenes) are statistically drier than the coast — that's why chase tours drive toward the gaps in the clouds.

Nights beat everything
